Another writer I love is Garry Kasparov especially the Great Predecessors series. The way he puts ideas into words is absolutely great.

I grew up with Garry Kasparov’s book 'My Great Predecessors,' a bible for chess players, and I think that might be the reason why my intuition is so strong.

In terms of favourites, Kasparov's My Great Predecessors' is pretty good.

Eventually tackle the most highly-regarded book on endgames, Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual.

It helps strong players to become stronger. I enjoy reading the book, and you can always learn something from there, even if you are a relatively weak player, or a very strong one.

I consider Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual an absolute must for every chess professional, and no less important even for a club player

If I should name three favourite chess books it would be Mister Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual, which is quite a good book and of which I am going to buy a new version in the near future.

Also Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual is a high quality book.

The best book I’ve ever read by far is Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual. It’s definitely advanced, but Dvoretsky, may he rest in peace, was I think the greatest chess author, certainly of my lifetime, perhaps of all time, so his books I really liked.

I read ‘My 60 Memorable Games’ and I think it’s a good book. The comments are not too long, but relatively exact. There are some inaccuracies, but not many, especially for that time.

The book that I was trying to model my book after was "My 60 Memorable Games". I mean that book is a classic. He gets straight to the point. He goes straight to the game and gives you all those, sometimes nifty, psychological descriptions or explanations of why he did this, or did that.

If I should name three favourite chess books it would be [...] The third book is Bronstein’s opus on Zurich 1953.

I just finished reading book on the Candidate Tournament in Zurich 1953 by Bronstein — great book!

And then the Grandmaster Preparation series by Jakob Aagaard I think is very good as well.

There are many books. The Grandmaster Preparation series by Jacob Aagaard is good.

I was never much of a book person although I have read a few books here and there over the years. I really enjoyed Endgame Strategy by Mikhail Shereshevsky.

Among endgame books I’d recommend the wonderful works by Mikhail Shereshevsky.

I would recommend 100 Endgames You Must Know. That is one good book on theoretical endgames.

If you’re a serious player you should definitely study these endings rigorously. [...] After that, I would move to 100 Endgames You Must Know.

I highly recommend the book Art of Attack in Chess. [...] If you're serious about learning how to attack, one of the best book written ever on attacking chess. Highly recommended for players over 1200-1300

The Art of Attack is a very famous chess book, one of the best chess books of all time.

The "Seven Deadly Chess Sins" and "Chess for Zebras" are both fantastic books on chess psychology.

Besides, I enjoy Seven Deadly Chess Sins by Jonathan Rowson. It's a very atypical book which raises extremely important topics. I think that if a world-class GM studies it well, he/she could get a kind of a manual on psychological struggle at the top level.

One excellent introductory book to rook endings is Amateur to IM by Jonathan Hawkins. Hawkins provides a concise and engaging analysis of theoretical rook endings as well as general rook ending concepts.

[To learn defence] I can recommend looking at the games of Tigran Petrosian, particularly the book Python Strategy.

How to Reassess Your Chess is a good book. It is not a must read, but it is a good book.

[About a line in the smith morra gambit] of course I would refer you to Marc Essermans amazing book Mayhem in the Morra. And I don't say amazing about a lot of books. It's a labor of love. Marc is the ultimate specialist in the morra, you should rather listen to him than me.

There's a very famous book called "Van Perlo's Endgame Tactics". Van Perlo is a correspondence player who compiled, I would even go so far as to thousands of instances of attacks, checkmates and tactics in the endgame.

One resource that I can recommend if you're having trouble with basic mates: Laszlo Polgar issued a huge anthology of mating puzzles. It's an amazing resource, it is mates in one two and three in great numbers. If you're serious about training you can sit down and do 10-15 of those a day for two months and you're going to greatly improve your mate-related pattern recognition.

My endgames also improved and there are many books on a few theoretical endgames that you have to know. One I read was Fundamental Chess Endings from 2002.
