Well, to play the Caro-Kann Defense, after 1.e4 you must make the move 1.c6
Black response 1...c6:
The Caro-Kann Defense is considered one of the strongest openings available to Black, and has been employed by many of the world chess champions, with Anatoly Karpov probably playing the best with this defense.
This defense has that name because in the middle of the 19th century, Horatio Caro and Marcus Kann studied this defense with great success.
