A Black Repertoire for Improvement-Oriented Beginners

White 1.e4:
White has staked a claim to the center while opening up two of his pieces, the bishop of course being the more important. The opened bishop being on the kingside means that White will be able to castle quickly.
Black response 1...e5:
1..e5 is good for similar reasons. There are, of course, other good moves, but all bend some rules. This is what a beginner ought to play.

Hello! This is a drillable opening repertoire for beginners looking to improve their game. The lines chosen are reasonably ambitious without requiring heaps and heaps of theory. For in-depth analysis of specific lines, you'll probably have to turn elsewhere, but this should cover most everything at a basic level. The repertoire is built around the Italian, 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6, and Queen's Gambit Declined. Gambits are often accepted, but insanely sharp lines are avoided.
