Even famous grandmasters like Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Maxime Vachier Lagrave have used this opening regularly in their games. This is the Bird Opening! 1. f4 does weaken the h4-to-e1 diagonal, so white should definitely not play any careless moves. The point of f4 is to control the center and also in the future if white would castle kingside, our rook will enjoy the extra space. The Bird Opening is definitely an aggressive and tactical opening, so if you are a more positional and safe player, this opening is probably not for you. There are many moves here for black, but hopefully I covered most of them. Note: my lines will not always be the absolute top engine move, they are rather based on which one is more comfortable to play as a human and have a decent winrate. Go to the next chapter! :D
